The success of this project was so impressive that the client returned for more! RMG Engineers Group was enlisted by the Magnum Shooting Center to create a state-of-the-art facility featuring 24 pistol/rifle lanes, two 50-yard rifle lanes, and six 100-yard pistol/rifle lanes, along with classrooms, a shooter’s lounge, and a 4,000 square foot retail area. Our structural engineering team took an innovative approach, using steel bar joist roof framing and steel plate baffles above the shooting lanes to support the roof. Additionally, we managed geotechnical engineering and construction compliance, including a detailed subsurface soil investigation to determine soil type and foundation needs. Our work encompassed open excavation observations, footing and wall reinforcement inspections, concrete testing, and soil compaction testing. We also designed and provided oversight for the Mechanically Earth Stabilized (MSE) geogrid reinforced retaining walls surrounding the site.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
To achieve construction cost savings, we designed the metal stud exterior walls of the retail shop as bearing walls. Months after construction was finished, a fire caused damage to parts of the building. RMG stepped in to conduct a thorough investigation and oversee the repairs. Our dedication to exceptional client service made a lasting impression, leading the client to choose RMG once again for the construction of a second shooting range in a nearby repurposed retail space.
